All states ag parts parts a.s.a.p. I’m having trouble getting the pto on the motor. It had a rear pto and hydraulic hookups and he had several attachments for it and the rear tires were even water filled.

The pulleys don’t seem to. It turns easily no matter where the selector. I just bought the tractor and knew of this problem.
Still sounds like its grounding out when you engage the electric clutch.what you can do is remove the spark plugs turn the motor over and check for spark,then with the plugs still out engage the pto switch and turn the motor over again and check to see if you still have spark.if not then you know that its the clutch that killing your spark.let us know what you find. If it turns out that you have the 316 kohler tractor (made in only one year, 1978 i believe.) then you need a model 33 mechanical tiller and a rear pto shaft that is mechanical and live (no clutch) and those parts are increasingly hard to find in good working order and priced accordingly.these parts are shared with later 140 models and the 317 tractors to name a few. And while bigger is often nicer, i can actually get this tractor into the woods to work unlike a larger tractor.so bigger is not automatically better.

This tractor was manufactured by the john deere in horicon, wisconsin, usa from 1984 to 1992. With the tractor off i can turn the rear pto by hand and can't feel that it's connected to anything inside. It utilizes the tractor's internal hydraulic pto clutch to assure smooth, positive power transfer during engagement.
Up for sale is an oem john deere 2000 rpm rear pto system 318 322 332 420 430 garden tractorsworks good and the splines are in good shape. Photos not available for this variation. Mine has about 25 hp at the pto so it's not a monster but it's a good size for my acreage.
Former employer was the same way, he had a large farm (for sc) in another part of the state with large tractors but had a john deere garden tractor for around his house. The rear pto is engaged by the pto switch on the dash. I have a lgt 165 closed side that belonged to my dad.
